I decided to try this co-working space in September 2024, which I could book for free as an Othership Premium member, as an alternative to the New Road Hotel that I visited in January 2024.

Here are the pros, in-between points and cons of the nhow London Hotel:

Pros

• The receptionists greeted me in a friendly manner upon arrival. They also responded to my e-mails promptly.
• There is a big table with sockets in it, which is in the bar area and used for co-working/hot-desking.
• The lobby, bar and restaurant have kitsch décor to represent London.
• Despite one receptionist saying that they no longer offer free hot drinks for Othership Premium and All-Access Members in their response to my e-mail, a staff member called Pedro kindly said I could have one for free while I waited for the breakfast buffet to be cleared from the big table for co-working/hot-desking. I had a decaffeinated latte with coconut milk and it was very good.
• There is an on-site restaurant where I had lunch on 2 occasions. The restaurant had some non-gluten-containing options available. One of the servers was very attentive when I asked him what non-gluten-containing options were available.
• Some nearby shops include the Bagci Food Centre and the Co-Op.
• Nearby bus routes include numbers 43 and 205, while Angel and Old Street Underground Stations are a 10 – 15-minute walk away in either direction.
• The butternut squash soup on my second day was very good. It remained warm for a while.
• There are benches outside where I could eat my packed lunch on one occasion.

In-between

• A parent and child (mostly babies and toddlers) group took place at the same time I started working on my first day, but I sat as far away from that group as possible while I worked.
• Free wi-fi is provided, but I couldn’t access it unless I had a username and password. Instead, I used my EE portable mobile wi-fi device to access the internet from my MacBook Pro and 4G to access the internet from my phone.
• Two other people were working at the same desk as me on my first day, but I sat at the opposite end from them. They were quiet apart from when they spoke to hotel/bar/restaurant staff.
• Background music was played, but I listened to my own music through headphones on my MacBook Pro.
• The chicken and ginger broth I had for lunch tasted more like ginger than chicken, but it was gluten-free and came with gluten-free toast, which wasn’t mentioned on the menu but a pleasant surprise.
• There are toilets on-site, but they are in the basement.
• Free water, biscuits and other treats are available for guests (even for those who book the co-working space), although I didn’t eat the biscuits because they’re not gluten-free.
• There was still food on the big co-working table after 12pm on the Tuesday probably because a special event was on, so I sat at a table in the bar instead. The table had electric sockets in the wall beside it.
• The butternut squash soup on my second day came with toast, but I forgot to ask if it was gluten-free or not. I didn’t eat the toast anyway because I ordered a side of fries, which was bigger than I expected them to be.

Cons

• I had to wait for quite a while for the breakfast buffet to be cleared from the big co-working/hot-desking table. I agree with another Othership member that I don’t recommend coming for the co-working space until 11.30am – 12pm most days even though the closest start time I could book was 11am.
• The bar got quite busy at around 4pm on my first day (Friday).
• Pedro seemed to have trouble understanding me when I asked him what types of coffee were available, but he seemed to understand me again when I repeated the question.
• The man sitting opposite me in the restaurant spoke quite loudly during a video call.
• Service in the restaurant was quite slow.
• Some people in the restaurant and co-working area appeared to have brought in their own drinks from outside.
• I found one member of hotel staff called Cole hard to understand when he asked me if I had booked the co-working space on my second day.
• When I went for lunch on the Monday, someone else took the space where I was sitting at originally, so I had to sit at another space at the big table after lunch.
• The co-working space was busier on the Monday than on the Friday.

Overall, I enjoyed working here more than the New Road Hotel but not quite as much as Spacemade, Riley Studios. I would consider coming here again in the future if I wanted somewhere free to work. 4/5.

If you are looking to work at a table, I would not come and work here before 11:30am or until their breakfast service has finished.

The free coffee for premium+ members is no longer fulfilled by the venue, even though it was advertised on the Othership booking webiste.

Otherwise, once you are sitting at a table it is a good working space.

Venue is comfortable and funky decoration – in a good way.
Some minor issues to connect to the wifi but got it sorted quickly.

Really upset to see this free workspace go paid. I loved going there every day and it’s a shame I can’t anymore

Lovely staff and a nice place to work. The music is motivating and at an unobtrusive volume for calls. Mask wearing and social distancing is good. Coffee was good too, thanks Peter!

Good for: when you need a fun but focused environment to plug away at your work.

Peter who served me was great fun! Really appreciated the staff wearing masks and the rule that anyone walking around wear masks too.

It’s a fun and very large space and is bookable for a long time. There’s good background music (depending on your taste!) for working to that’s not too loud for when you’re making calls.

And ofc – the free hot drink is a win 🙂

OMG I just loved this place. Great space, perfect to work from, top service.

I met a few others coworking from there and got some good tips too.
